'Bank security service': two detained in Iyık Janyl

The callers talked four pensioners into reading out SMS codes. Police remind readers that banks never ask for codes by phone.

Iyık Janyl City Police detained two local men, B. A., 31, and N. S., 24, on 28 October on suspicion of fraud.

According to the police, the callers posed as a bank's security service and persuaded four residents aged 58 to 71 to read out one-time SMS codes. The total loss was 6,300 som.

Eleven SIM cards and four phones were seized from a rented room in the Lower Town. A fraud case has been opened, and both men are in temporary detention.

The Iyık Janyl police press office (Shavkat Yuldashev) reminds residents that banks never ask for an SMS code or card number by phone. We advise Nurzhan readers, especially older ones, to be just as careful: such calls happen here too.
